Plenity Review 2021 – How do you qualify for it?

And is it really worth the hype?

Plenity overview

Marketed as a weight management pill that’s been ‘inspired by nature’ and ‘proven by science’, Plenity, at first glance, appears just like any other fat burner on the market.

Similar to its competitors, it claims to promote healthy weight management however they tackle it through one key aspect: appetite suppression. They say it will ‘unlock the power to eat less’ and support you in making the healthier choices in your diet so you can reach your long-term weight management goals. By the looks of things, Plenity acts like an invisible gastric band – but without the hefty price tag that comes with surgery.

However, there are big differences in the way this weight loss supplement works – and who is allowed to take it. Yes, you read right. Apparently, to take it, it’s not as simple as just ‘adding to cart’.

According to their website, to acquire Plenity you have to undergo an assessment via an online consultation with a doctor who can prescribe Plenity – but only if it’s appropriate to you. This is based on whether you are overweight or obese, or if your Body Mass Index is 25 – 40kg/m2.

As it is one of the only FDA cleared weight loss supplements on the market, it does give Plenity a somewhat authoritative air amongst the fat burner industry. Plus, the fact that you can’t buy it without a prescription also adds to this growing sense of exclusivity surrounding the product.

Intrigued? We thought you might be…

Here at Spot Me Girl, we’re dying to find out what it is about Plenity which gives them the authority to actually turn people away from buying it.

Is it really just that effective? Or, like so many products in saturated markets, is this whole prescription thing just yet another gimmick to try and stir up interest in a product which is actually mediocre at best?

Let’s find out, shall we?

Plenity: The Ingredients

Plenity appears to be made up of only two natural ingredients which, if it is as effective as its competitors, is pretty impressive. These two ingredients – cellulose and citric acid – work together to form a ‘three-dimensional matrix’ which is designed to take up space in your stomach and small intestine to promote a strong sense of satiety. The premise of Plenity is that it reduces hunger to such a degree that you’ll be able to stop snacking and eat smaller portions at mealtimes without cravings afterwards. The result? Potentially faster weight loss.

Let’s have a look at these two core ingredients in a little more detail.

  • Cellulose So, the first of the duo is cellulose which is usually used as a thickening agent in food products and can be found in many low-fat products to provide a thick, creamy texture in the place of fatty options. Its relation to suppressing appetite is also the reason why it is used as a filler in many diet foods, with the potential to keep you feeling full without the extra calories[1]. Because humans can’t absorb or digest cellulose[2], it instead takes up room in your stomach and delays hunger in a similar way to the likes of soluble fiber[3], without having any impact to your calorie consumption. One thing to note is that because it is often referred to as a ‘dietary fiber’ on some food labels, you could be fooled into thinking you’re getting more fiber in your diet. However, it does not carry the same nutritional benefits as natural foods.
  • Citric Acid – Commonly found in citrus fruits like lemons and limes, citric acid is used for a variety of purposes in day-to-day life, including in packaged food and drinks to keep produce fresh, in household cleaners for its ability to remove stains and odors, and is even found in cosmetics like lipstick, hair spray and deodorant to help them last longer[4]. In terms of weight loss, citric acid has been linked to increasing your metabolism so you can burn more fat. This is down to a series of chemical reactions beginning with citrate, a molecule of citric acid, which is known as the citric acid cycle. The series of reactions it causes sparks a transformation of food into usable fuel that you can burn off, leading to higher energy expenditure[5]. It’s also known for enhancing the bioavailability of minerals so your body can absorb nutrients better[6] which, if you’re eating a more nutritional diet, helps to optimize every meal.

How does Plenity work?

Plenity is designed to offer appetite support so you can take control of your weight management and lose more weight quicker.

Each hydrogel capsule contains a proprietary blend of cellulose and citric acid which forms a three-dimensional hydrogel matrix. Once it hits your stomach, the capsule shell dissolves, releasing this matrix to the water which each hydrogel cell absorbs up to 100 times its weight.

As the cells absorb the water, they grow in size, taking up room in your stomach which results in an overall feeling of satiety and leaves little room for food, so you’re likely to eat less. Once you’ve eaten, the cells break down in your intestines and release the water absorbed back into your gastrointestinal tract.

The capsules are designed to not be absorbed or digested so you don’t have to worry about any unnecessary calories.

What are the benefits of taking Plenity?

Reduces calorie intake

The main focus of Plenity is to suppress your appetite by filling up your stomach temporarily so you don’t overeat. Because you won’t feel as hungry, you’ll find it easier to reduce portion sizes every mealtime and therefore consume less calories. In order to lose weight, you need to reduce your calories significantly to make any change, so Plenity promises to block larger meals so you can stick to your calorie deficit easier and make quicker weight loss.

Helps you make healthier choices

Because your stomach will be taking up by the hydrogel capsules, you’re less likely to crave unhealthy snacks – plus you won’t feel hungry enough to overindulge. In this way, it could help you make healthier choices when it comes to your diet and hopefully cut out the naughty things.

Could increase metabolism

There are some studies which link citric acid to fat burning due to its ability to kickstart the citric acid cycle which converts food into usable fuel you can burn off. This additional metabolism support could be really key to keeping your digestion and gut working properly, to avoid any bloating or stomach upset due to the Plenity process. Plus, you could burn more calories – even when resting too.

How to take Plenity

The creators advise taking 3 Plenity capsules with water, 20 minutes before lunch or dinner. They state that you must drink 16 ounces of water for the capsules to work.

Another word of advice is that after you’ve taken your capsules, use the 20 minutes you’ve got before your meal to plan what you’ll be having and ‘eat mindfully’.

Plenity also add that if you miss your pre-meal dose, take your serving during or immediately after that meal.

Plenity results – before and after

We struggled to find much in the way of before and after pictures, probably because it is fairly new to the market. However, you can find a promotional testimonial video on their own website and YouTube which, admittedly, is difficult to determine whether it’s PR-led or genuine customer reviews.

Plenity reviews – what are other people saying?

The majority of reviews we could find were videos taken by Plenity so, again, it’s difficult to determine whether these are genuine reviews or paid ads.

It’s still in its infancy as a supplement and, according to them, is not broadly available right now. So, maybe in the next few years, we’ll have more definitive reviews to judge its effectiveness in a more balanced way.

Plenity Testimonial Video Quote:

“It wasn’t restrictive. I could still eat the foods that my family was eating, and still make progress towards my weight.”

Does Plenity have side effects?

Studies on Plenity have shown participants who took it were more likely to experience GI issues like bloating, abdominal pain, gas and diarrhea. However, compared to the placebo group, the results were only marginally higher[7].

Apart from that, no other side effects have been reported so far.

Because of the nature of Plenity’s process, we do advise following their recommendations in terms of water intake and make sure you stay hydrated.

Plenity Review: Our Conclusion

Despite a few earlier concerns, we do think this sounds like it could be a great way to lose weight. Its simple concept and ingredient profile mean it’s likely to suit a variety of people.

Usually, we see weight loss pills containing natural stimulants like caffeine, for example, which can react badly to certain people, so it’s nice to find a company that has developed something totally different to appeal to a wider market.

The only issues we had were firstly, the price. Compared to other fat loss aids on the market, this seems incredibly steep and might exclude many people who simply can’t afford it. Secondly, you can only get it if you qualify for their FDA-requested guidelines – i.e. if you’re obese or within the right BMI. It’s also quite a fiddly process, having to arrange an online consultation and use a prescription to purchase it. For some, they just want to have the freedom to try out a new fat burner without all the hassle.

Because Plenity has been fully approved by the FDA, it does help this weight loss pill stand out from the rest. It feels more clinically-proven and official than some others on the market. However, be aware that, although they have had this backing, it does not qualify it as official medication. It is still just a weight management pill like most others, but more targeted towards people who struggle to control their appetite.

If you’re looking for a weight loss supp to elevate workouts, boost motivation or take fat burning to the next level, there are plenty of other more multi-faceted alternatives out there you can ‘add to cart’ straight away! Here at Hey Spot Me Girl, we’re all about safety – so we wanted to remind you to double-check with your doctor or physician if you have any concerns at all about introducing a new supplement into your diet.

Whilst supplements could be a great boost to your lifestyle, they could also have adverse effects on your body if not used properly, or if you have sensitivity to any of the ingredients. So, make sure you always check the label fully. Also, make sure you stick to the usage instructions, particularly during the first week.

It’s also worth pointing out you shouldn’t rely on supplements alone to achieve your physique goals. Remember girls, supplements are enhancers – not the only answer!

A balanced diet, consistent workout plan and sensible lifestyle choices are the fundamentals behind real change – and your supplement should only ever be used as a way of optimizing the results of your hard work, not a way of replacing it altogether.

So, whatever supplements you choose to improve your life, make sure your health and welfare is always paramount over anything else every single time.
